About
Welcome to Gold Hill Glass Art!
I'm Mary Danko Williams, owner/artist, and I'm glad you're here! I hand make one-of-a kind inspiring and compassionate glass art, gifts, jewelry, and home decor. I hope my creations touch people's lives in some small way and become cherished heirlooms for future generations to enjoy.
Why Gold Hill Glass Art?
I lived on Ramsey Road in Gold Hill, Oregon, for almost 20 years. Due to a job transfer we moved back to California and found a home ironically located off, of all places, Gold Hill exit and Ramsey Road! It seemed like destiny and I liked the smooth sounding flow for a business name. Plus, gold for me represents glass with class and high quality. Thus, “Gold Hill Glass Art” was born.
Who is Mary Danko Williams?
My grandmother taught me china painting in my late teens and that’s where I first learned about and fell in love with kilns and firing glass and china. After college, while working in aerospace as a Mechanical Engineer in the early days of circuit board assembly, I was military certified in soldering technology. (A nerdy fact that delights me as I occasional integrate those old skills and training into my artwork.)
.
Since then, I discovered glass art and am hooked! Whether it's warm fused or cold sandcarved, I just love working with glass and exploring all the wonderful techniques and ways to add sparkle and fun to folks lives with my creations. Years living in Napa and Monterey definitely influence my design themes as I LOVE the beauty of Napa’s vineyards and the calming of the ocean on my soul.
.
We all have layers and one of mine is managing the loss of loved ones in my youth. The experience helped me seize and appreciate the smallest things in life far more than most. As a result, I like my art to help others grieve in a healthy way and celebrate life too. Thus, I incorporate cremains and/or recreate scenes of final resting places in some of my pieces that bring deep meaning and appreciation to my glass fans.
.
I’ve always believed a handcrafted gift is a work of art and a labor of love straight from the heart. During these times, I believe we need more love than ever and hope you'll find my handmade jewelry and other glass art creations will become cherished heirlooms and special keepsakes for years to come.
